Port Douglas Marlin Challenge – 1st-4th October 2025

Every year, Port Douglas plays host to one of the most thrilling fishing events in Australia—The Port Douglas Marlin Challenge. Taking place during the peak heavy tackle season, this prestigious tournament draws anglers from across the country and around the world, all competing for the chance to reel in one of the ocean’s greatest prizes—the legendary Black Marlin.

For 2025, the tournament is set for four consecutive days of fishing from October 1st to 4th, culminating in an exciting presentation night at Salsa Bar & Grill on October 4th. If you’re ready to test your skills in one of the world’s top Marlin fishing destinations, this is your chance to take on the challenge.

The Best Marlin Fishing in the World

Port Douglas sits at the heart of Australia’s Marlin Coast, home to some of the best big-game fishing in the world. Every year, world-class game boats and expert crews arrive from across the globe, eager to compete in these rich fishing waters. With the possibility of landing a 1,000lb “grander” Black Marlin, the stakes are high, and the competition fierce.

The tournament takes place in the stunning waters between Ribbon No. 5 Reef and Jenny Louise Shoal, an area known for its deep, warm currents and abundant marine life—prime conditions for Marlin fishing. Unlike previous years, competitors can now commence fishing from anywhere within the permitted fishing zone when the tournament kicks off at 11:00 AM on October 1st.
